Airport Firefighters Say, "Don't
Fly High!"
October 22 , 2007
The airport’s aircraft rescue firefighters (ARFF) sponsor a free blood pressure health station this Wednesday, October 24. Airport customers can roll up their sleeves and get their blood pressure checked.
“Blood pressure is one of those health issues people can easily overlook,” says Stu Acosta, ARFF supervisor. The American Heart Association says high blood pressure has no symptoms and that nearly one-third of all people with high blood pressure don’t realize they have it.
“We just want people to slow down long enough to let us check,” says Acosta. “If we find someone with high blood pressure, we’ll encourage them to see a doctor. We’ll also write down their pressure on a card and give it to them.”
The airport has 17 ARFF members and all of them are certified Emergency Medical Technicians. The blood pressure check station will be set up on the main level of the terminal, near the restaurant and fountain, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am, and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
